JJ Dinner Gallery Tickets

From: Carol Porch <porch@avalon.net>

At this years Iowa Democratic PartyJefferson Jackson Dinner Senator Tom Daschle will be the keynote speaker, along with Iowas leaders Senator Tom Harkin, Governor Tom Vilsack, First Lady Christie Vilsack, Lt. Governor Sally Pederson, and Congressman Leonard Boswell. The event will be on Saturday evening, November 5 at Hy-Vee Hall, part of the new Iowa Events Center, in Des Moines. The Jefferson/ Jackson Dinner will also feature speeches from the Democratic candidates for the 2006 gubernatorial race.

While this is our most important fundraising opportunity each year, it is also a celebration of our entire party. In order that more of our Democratic activists can join the celebration, we are pleased to announce a limited number of gallery tickets for the Jefferson-Jackson event. These gallery tickets are available for $25 per individual, and entitle the ticket-holder to theater-style seating inside the Hy-Vee Hall. These tickets do not include a meal, and are comparable to balcony tickets that have been offered in previous years, although they are more limited in number. Gallery tickets are available only in advance, on a first-come, first-served basis, by calling the Jefferson Jackson ticket line at 515-974-1690 or by e-mailing Molly Scherrman, IDP Finance Director, at molly@iowademocrats.org.

Gallery tickets will not be mailed out, but can be picked up at the Will-Call desk at the event.

Something FUN for Dems

Friends,

Lonny Pulkrabek sent this along for the list.

If you go to http://www.google.com and enter the word "failure" into the search box, and click on search (or press enter), you'll be amazed (and probably not really surprised) at what turns out to be the very first listing! Try it and see! Better yet, enter the word "failure" and click on the "I'm feeling lucky" button. Amaze and amuse your Democratic friends with this trick.

Presenters

Tom Lewis - What next for the anti-war movement?
Campus antiwar network (tentative) – the student antiwar movement

Reminder about JC Dems Listserv

From Dave Redlawsk <redlawsk@ix.netcom.com>

Friends,

Just a reminder that candidate material appearing on this listserv does NOT represent any kind of endorsement by the Johnson County Democrats for any candidate or issue campaign. The listserv is open to all Democratic candidates (whether for partisan or non partisan races) as a courtesy to those candidates to introduce themselves to members of this list and/or to announce meetings and events. The list will not be used for debate or for attacks on candidates in non partisan races or Democratic primaries.

Please note that emails from the list generally start with a line identifying who sent the email. The email does not come from me (unless otherwise noted) or from any other party official (again unless clearly stated).

Any questions on this policy or the role of the listserv can be sent to Chair Sarah Swisher (seiusarah@msn.com) or 1st Vice Chair Dave Redlawsk (redlawsk@ix.netcom.com).

Message from Gerry Kuhl

From Gerry Kuhl <GKuhlAP@aol.com>

Johnson County Democrats,

Here's a brief update and thank you from my campaign for City Council in North Liberty.

As a life-long registered Democrat this is just a brief "thank you" for the tremendous support I've received from so many of you in my campaign for City Council in North Liberty to bring about open government, Safe Streets, and Sensible Growth. I especially appreciate the turnout at my recent "Economic Development and Responsible Growth" event. Your many donations and offers of help are also much appreciated.

It was an honor when Gov. Tom Vilsack appointed me to the State of Iowa--City Finance Committee due to my financial expertise. But now, after 25 years as a budget analyst for the State and more recently my several years as a CPA with my own firm specializing in promoting small businesses in and around North Liberty, I'm ready to serve in elective local government.

I look forward to working with you so that no longer will Johnson County residents be embarrassed to read about North Liberty P&Z and City Council actions to allow the trucking of raw sewage or the disregard of hundreds of neighborhood petitions concerning new developments. I also intend to act on behalf of the citizens with such projects as a regional transportation system for our community. I hope to carry the banner for progressive change that Dave Franker brought to our community during his tenure in office.

Thanks again. I've enjoyed my 4 years as the City of North Liberty Telecommunications Commission chair and look forward to partnering with you as I serve on the North Liberty City Council.

Gerry Kuhl
