Help with Fall BBQ
From: Rod Sullivan
Dear Democratic Friends:
We need a bit of help in preparing for the Fall BBQ. Here is how you
can help:
1. We need a large cooler that has a spigot for dispensing lemonade;
the type that a sports team or construction crew might use. If you have
one we can borrow, please E-mail Gina Schatteman at
iowadem@hushmail.com.
2. We need items for the silent auction. Items with a Democratic Party
theme are great, but this is not necessary. Do not be afraid to âthink
outside the boxâ; we are happy to take donations of coupons, services,
etc. If you have something you would like to donate to the silent
auction, contact Pat Vunderink at pat-vunderink@mchsi.com.
3. We need people who are willing to donate desserts. No need to RSVP;
just bring them-they will get eaten!

The Johnson County Democratic Party is holding its annual Fall BBQ on
Saturday, October 9th, at noon at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

The Fall BBQ will have great food and drink, childrenâs activities, a
silent auction and raffles, and plenty of Democratic camaraderie. A

Franker-Leach debate last Saturday
From: Franker for Congress Campaign
Franker-Leach Debate last Saturday
The Dave Franker-Jim Leach debate at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids
this past Saturday was a clear victory for the Democratic challenger
Franker.
Watch for it soon on Iowa City (Channel 4) and Cedar Rapids (Channel
18) City Cable. For those in the other 13 counties, please contact
www.frankerforcongress.com and we will send you a copy as soon as it
becomes available, which should be just a few days.
Dave pointed out numerous recent Leach votes in Congress that the
Republican himself couldn't even recall.
Dave forced Leach to go on the defensive about his deciding vote in
favor of the Bush-Cheney prescription drug bill giveaway to the drug
industry.
Dave then unequivocally defended Social Security from any privatization
and explained how Leach's "individual accounts" were nothing more than
different words for privatization.
Dave noted the history of special education underfunding and the
deleterious effects of "No Child Left Behind's" impending sanctions and
negative labeling of Iowa teachers, students and schools while Leach,
unbelievably, said that there was no connection between special
education and "No Child Left Behind."
Next up: Franker vs. Leach on IPTV's "Iowa Press" show on Friday,
October 1, 7:30 p.m. with a replay on Sunday, October 3 at 12 noon.
