Our Mission
To elect and appoint Democrats of difference to partisan and
non-partisan offices.

Why the Leadership Development Group?
To more effectively represent our community, the Johnson County
Democrats are recruiting individuals interested in elected and
appointed positions at the local, county, and state levels, including
but not limited to groups of individuals that have historically been
excluded from these opportunities on the basis of race, ethnic/
national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, marital
status, or disability.

What Can You Expect?
This will be the first step for many, and the next step for some,
towards elected and appointed positions. While we do have a meeting
agenda, this will be an interactive dialogue. We are coming together
to take advantage of our collective experience and expertise with the
unified goal of increasing the presence of Democrats of difference in
elected and appointed positions.

More about the Johnson County Democrats
The heart of the party is the Central Committee, which meets on the
first Thursday of each month.
Each year, we hold our caucus. In Presidential Election years we talk
about that, but every year we get together with fellow Democrats to
discuss issues facing our community, state, and nation.
In even numbered years:
- At the precinct caucuses, we elect the 114 members of the of the
Central Committee (2 per precinct). The Central Committee manages all
party business and activities throughout the year.
- We hold our County Convention, where we create a platform based on
our caucus resolutions. We also elect members to represent Johnson
County on the 2nd District Central Committee.
- After the County Convention, the Central Committee elects an
Executive Committee, consisting of the County Chair, First Vice Chair,
Second Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Affirmative Action Chair,
Concerns Chair, Finance Chair, Membership Chair, Newsletter Chair,
Publicity Chair, and the President of the University of Iowa Democrats.
And every year, we support Democratic candidates in local, state, and
national elections with work like phone calling, door knocking, and
envelope stuffing, parades, and other community events.
Everything depends on Democrats like you to get involved.
