FRANKER WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE
New poll finds voters unhappy with Jim Leach and with the direction of
the nation
A recent poll shows David Franker, Democratic nominee for U.S.
Congress in Iowaâs 2nd Congressional District, closing in on
Congressman Jim Leach.
A Bannon Communication Research poll conducted September 24th and 25th,
shows Leach below the 50% mark, which traditionally signifies a safe
incumbent. Leach leads Franker 46%-32% with a fifth (22%) of the
electorate still undecided.
âThis clearly shows Jim Leach is vulnerable and that the voters are
ready for a change,â said Maureen Meyer, Franker for Congress campaign
manager.
The poll also showed that well over half of voters in the district are
unhappy with the way things are going today. 55% of voters feel that
things in the United States are moving in the wrong direction and only
33% feel things are moving in the right direction.
âVoters are unhappy right now, and they have a right to be. Â They
should be able to expect a congressman to work vigorously to represent
their interests and values in DC, while also working to protect and
improve the building blocks of their lives, like their jobs and their
healthcare,â said David Franker.
Only two-fifths (46%) of voters believe that Jim Leach was doing a good
job, over half (54%) either have negative opinions or no opinions on
him. In addition, less than half (46%) of voters believe Leach
deserves re-election.
âWe clearly see all the warning signs of an embattled incumbent,â Said
Brad Bannon, President of Bannon Communications Research. âWhen people
are unhappy about the direction of the nation and donât clearly feel
their Congressman is doing enough to represent their needs, they vote
for new leadership.â
